Riposte: 2023 Reps Race, Kogi Speaker’s Alleged Macabre Dance and Truth About Funsho Otu’s Travails

….leave the Speaker out of your self inflicted travails

Our attention has been drawn to an opinion expressed and purportedly put together by one Oloruntoba Tobi John who claimed to have been writing from Kabba, published by some online platforms obviously with the sole aim of discrediting the good job Rt. Hon. (Prince) Matthew Kolawole is doing in Kabba/Bunu Local Government Area to reposition our great party,  the All Progressive Congress and also to attract more dividends of democracy to the constituency.

We would have not bother ourselves to dignify the disjointed write-up with our response but to keep the reading public abreast of the true position of things as regards the rumour going round that it is the Speaker that is behind the removal of the embattled member of the Kogi State Independent Electoral Commission, Mr. Funsho Olorunfemi.

To blame any other person for the present travail of Mr. Funsho Olorunfemi is not only ludicrous but mischievous.

The law is unambiguous on what the members of a State Independent Electoral Commission should and should not do. If however for whatever reason, Mr. Funsho Olorunfemi decides to brazenly flout the law despite the oath of office he swore to, the consequences should not be put on any other person.

He was invited based on a petition which the petitioner confronted him with during the Committee hearing. All the allegations against him were proved in his presence and neither did he deny any of the issues raised against him.

It is also obvious that the petitioner is oblivious of the duties as seen in his ranting.

Oloruntoba Tobi John, if not fictitious, has forgotten that the same State Assembly he claimed to be a rubber stamp Assembly, passed the law that established the same SIEC and also screened the same man to function before he went off track, Tobi is urged to look for something productive for himself and leave the Speaker out of their self inflicted problems.

If Oloruntoba Tobi John could describe the joint committees reports of a duly established State House of Assembly that is saddle with the responsibility to carry out oversight functions to monitor the activities of the other arms of governments as ignoble, it means he is suffering from acute myopia and his frustrations can be understood in view of the huge embarrassment his embattled godfather has brought upon himself.

Rt. Hon. (Prince) Matthew Kolawole remains one of the leading pillars of the ruling All Progressive Congress in not only Kabba/Bunu, Kogi West but the entire state and the country at large; for anyone will say that he will soon abandon the party is delusional on the part of proclaimers of such baloney.

Rt. Hon. Matthew Kolawole is a staunch member of APC and an unapologetic supporter of Governor Yahaya Bello’s quest to be the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria come 2023 by the grace of God.

Rt. Hon. (Prince) Matthew Kolawole has not declared his intention to run for the Kabba/Bunu/Ijumu Federal Constituency come 2023 despite calls from the people of the constituency for him to show interest.

In his words, “it is only God that knows who will live to see tomorrow. The current mandate in the House of Assembly to represent the good people of Kabba/Bunu State Constituency which is still valid till 2023, is all that matters for now.”

Maybe Oloruntoba Tobi do not understand the meaning of “political turmoil” when it is associated with the ward congress that was adjudged by all stakeholders including INEC representatives as peaceful and credible in Kabba/Bunu. For avoidance of doubt Kabba/Bunu All Progressive Congress is one united big family under the leadership of the Youngest Governor in Nigeria.

Rt. Hon. (Prince) Matthew Kolawole is more focused to continue to propagate the gospel of Governor Yahaya Bello to become the President of Nigeria come 2023 by the grace of God and to facilitate more dividends of democracy to the constituency and can’t be distracted by individuals who are only out to cause disaffection within the party ranks.

Signed:
Femi Olugbemi,
Chief Press Secretary to the Honourable Speaker,
Kogi State House of Assembly
