REJOINDER: Setting the Record Straight on Kogi West APC Primary Election
Recent claims circulated on social media by a Facebook handle known as “ProudlyKabba” alleging that Senator Sunday Karimi lost the All Progressives Congress (APC) senatorial primary election for Kogi West to Sam Aro are not only misleading but entirely devoid of factual and documentary foundation.
For the avoidance of doubt, the APC Kogi West Senatorial Primary Election was conducted in line with party guidelines, monitored by party officials, security agencies, and accredited observers. At the conclusion of the exercise, the official results announced by the returning officers clearly declared Senator Sunday Karimi as the winner with a landslide margin.
The officially documented results are as follows:
1. Senator Sunday Steven Karimi — 51,665 votes
2. Sam Aro — 620 votes
3. Smart Adeyemi — 571 votes
4. Alhaji Abubakar Zakari Ola — 414 votes
5. Elizabeth Adedoyin — 18 votes
These figures were collated from delegates and voting centers across the seven local government areas that make up Kogi West Senatorial District. The margin between Senator Karimi and every other contestant leaves no room for ambiguity, manipulation, or imaginary interpretation.
The desperate attempt by some political actors and sponsored social media propagandists to rewrite officially declared results only exposes the level of panic among those unsettled by Senator Karimi’s overwhelming acceptance across Kogi West.
Contrary to the claims contained in the publication, there has been no official communication from the APC National Working Committee, the party’s National Secretariat, or the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) suggesting that Senator Karimi’s victory has been reversed or substituted.
It is therefore irresponsible and unethical for any platform to claim that another candidate’s name has been “submitted” without documentary evidence or official confirmation from the appropriate constitutional authorities within the APC.
The allegation that Senator Karimi “cannot confidently claim victory” because some areas allegedly operated on consensus arrangements is equally misleading. Consensus arrangements are lawful internal political mechanisms recognized by the Constitution of the APC, provided they are accepted by party stakeholders and delegates involved in the process. Even at that, the primary election in Kogi West produced verifiable figures duly signed and authenticated by relevant officials.
Those attempting to cast doubts on the legitimacy of the exercise have failed to produce any alternative authenticated result sheets or evidence showing that Sam Aro won any lawful contest. Political wishful thinking cannot replace official electoral records.
Furthermore, the publication’s speculative references to alleged meetings with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu remain unverified hearsay designed primarily to create confusion and unnecessary tension within the APC family in Kogi State.
President Tinubu, as leader of the party and President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, has consistently emphasized due process, internal democracy, and party unity. Associating the President with unsubstantiated conspiracy theories without evidence amounts to political mischief.
The truth remains simple and verifiable: Senator Sunday Karimi overwhelmingly won the APC primary election for Kogi West Senatorial District. The original result sheets, collation records, and endorsements from delegates across the district remain valid and intact.
Political contests naturally produce winners and losers, but democracy demands respect for officially declared outcomes rather than the manufacture of fictitious narratives aimed at deceiving the public.
No amount of propaganda can erase the clear mandate freely given to Senator Sunday Karimi by APC delegates across Kogi West.
The APC leadership and genuine party faithful must therefore resist divisive misinformation capable of heating the polity and distracting the party from preparations ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In politics, facts remain sacred, and the facts, figures, and officially declared results all confirm one reality: Senator Sunday Karimi won the APC Kogi West Senatorial Primary convincingly and legitimately.
