Rejoinder: Activities Of Some Unscrupulous Elements Among The Fulani Herders In Ijumu Local Government


 

In a swift reaction to an online video and pictures circulating the cyberspace about Hon. Taufiq A. Isa. the Ijumu local government council and Kogi State ALGON Chairman, that he commanded to shoot a herder.

It is nothing but tissues of lies and a calculative attempt to disrupt the existing peace and orderliness in Ijumu land and Kogi State by extension by some misinformed elements.

Setting the record straight, there is this notorious herder who has been on rampage against the law abiding citizens of Ijumu local government, most especially the farmers.

 

There had being several reports to the local government Chairman and security agencies on the uncouth activities of the herder and his cohorts, that his cattles prefer to feed on people’s farms than weeds.

Some months ago, his cows ate some Ebira’s farms and in an attempt to restrict him from such tension generating incidence, he matcheted one of the youths in Odokoro who happens to be a younger brother to the King of Ebira community in Odokoro.
This has already tensed the youths and entire people around Odokoro and Ijumu at large.

On the October 14Th 2023, the Ijumu local government chairman was at saint Augustine college for a political program at Kabba, Kogi West APC rally, he received a distress call that there was tension in Odokoro community where the same herder was reported of cutting off another farmer’s hands while he was aiming at beheading the farmer, the farmer’s two arms were barely cut off absolutely.
Immediately after the program at Kabba, the chairman rushed down to Odokoro Gbede to calm the tension, on getting home, he met the same herder who had been repeatedly reported for the same offence of evil perpetrations in Ijumu local government was brought by the vigilante group into the chairman’s house.
The chairman ordered the safety of the herder to avoid what happened in Aiyetoro where a man was killed by the angry youths for alleged penis disappearance, as against the directives of the chairman who said the suspect should be taken to Aiyetoro police custody.
On their way to Aiyetoro police division, the herder made an attempt to escape which already had attracted the attention of the youths who were all out to do the worse to him, for his serial criminal activities in Odokoro and Ijumu, he was shot at the leg by the vigilante to safe him from the the irate youths who were all out to mob him.

In the magnanimity of the chairman, he took both of the two wounded persons to the hospital, for adequate treatment, the Fulani herder’s family came to take him from the hospital without the notice of the chairman, which they subsequently resorterd to circulating concocted lies against the Chairman.
The chairman has spent over 300 thousand naira for the medical care of both the farmer and the herder.
