Reflecting On Engr. Joseph’s unusual trajectory of building a safe, healthy environment.

Since his assumption of office as Commissioner, Engr. Joseph Oluwasegun, Kogi State Commissioner For Environment and Ecological Management, without mincing words has been doing the unusual in building a safe place for the people of Kogi State.
That Engr. Joseph Oluwasegun, has been making significant strides in addressing environmental challenges in the State amidst the challenges he met upon assumption, calls for Commendation for a round peg in a round hole.
With his wealth of experience as a civil engineer and his commitment to environmental sustainability, Engr. Joseph Oluwasegun is working tirelessly to address the ecological challenges facing Kogi State
Some notable initiatives geared towards addressing Gully Erosion, has seen Engr. Joseph, partner with the Federal Ministry of Environment to assess major gully erosion sites in Lokoja.
The aim is to identify effective mitigation strategies for sustainable management. Always calm, cool and calculating, the thorough breed Engineer, has in all circumstances brought his ingenuity to bear in making the State capital clean.
In an era where Climate Change Mitigation has become a challenge, the Commissioner has not shy away from emphasizing the need for collective action to address climate change.
His vision and mission in this direction is in highlighting the state’s commitment to implementing effective mitigation strategies, such as constructing drainage systems and flood embankments, and community sensitization and early warning mechanisms.
Knowing fully well that the resources available to the State is competing with several attention, Engr. Joseph’s partnership with International Collaborations has been paying off.
To underscore his passion for a safe environment, Engr. Joseph led a delegation to COP29, where the state government showcased its climate action plans and sought global partnerships to advance climate resilience.
Presently, his expertise has seen Kogi state working on a Land Restoration program under the Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes (ACReSAL). The project is geared towards revitalizing degraded lands and boost agricultural productivity.
A politician that is loved at home and abroad, Engr. Joseph’s Women Empowerment initiative has also propel him to advocate for increased women participation in governance and decision-making processes, thus emphasizing the need for gender equality and women’s empowerment in creating a sustainable future.
A Commissioner with passion for development of tomorrow’s leader, Engr. Joseph’s youth empowerment initiative has made him a strong advocate for youth empowerment.
This Engr. Joseph has done by engaging Kogi youths through various initiatives, promoting youth liberation and good governance, reason why his army of young people who are his shield has made him the toast of Kogi State Youths, particularly from Yagba West LGA.
While his efforts to make the health of the people cardinal, through clean environment, Engr. Joseph remains passionate, very energetic and full of activities, insisting that the Ministry is not there yet, but a work in progress.
As a field man, Engr. Joseph is known to be in the forefront in ensuring that the objectives of the administration of Gov. Usman Ahmed Ododo is realized in the Environment and Ecological Management sector.
A very dedicated and committed public servant who will not sit in the comfort of his office, Engr. Joseph has proven that, addressing environmental challenges and implementing effective solutions is the best way to go in creating the enabling environment in the environment and Ecological Management sector.
His proactiveness, anticipating and addressing environmental issues before they become major problems has made the seamless changes and accomplishments made by Engr. Joseph in the clean and safe Kogi environment.
A team player of no mean repute, working effectively with government agencies, development partners, local communities, and other stakeholders to achieve environmental goals, the Kogi State Commissioner For Environment has developed and implemented forward-thinking initiatives that would stand the test of time, towards promoting environmental sustainability and ecological management.
Thus far, he is result-driven in delivering tangible results and making a positive impact on the environment through innovativeness, a quality that places Engr. Joseph far above his peers.
Again, what stands out Engr. Joseph is his ability to find creative solutions to environmental challenges and promoting sustainable practices. He does this by engaging with local communities and involving them in decision-making processes to ensure that their needs are met.
Furthermore, taking responsibility for actions and outcomes, being transparent in decision-making processes remains the hidden secret Engr. Joseph has used in ensuring a clean and sustainable environment in the State.
