RE- CHIEF EDWARD ONOJA COMMENDS SENATOR KARIMI ON STATEWIDE SCHOLARSHIP INITIATIVE

Chief Edward David Onoja’s commendation of Distinguished Senator Sunday Karimi for the Kogi Statewide Scholarship Initiative is more than a courtesy, it is a powerful endorsement of a political ethic Kogi state and indeed Nigeria urgently needs.
In a political landscape often divided by zoning, sectional interests, and narrow agendas, Senator Karimi’s decision to extend a ₦300,000,000 scholarship intervention to students of Kogi origin across all 21 Local Government Areas stands as a bold act of statesmanship. It redefines representation not as a territorial privilege, but as a moral responsibility.
By reaching beyond Kogi West, his immediate constituency, the Senator has demonstrated that true leadership uplifts the whole, not just a part.
Chief Onoja, former Chief of Staff and Deputy Governor of Kogi State, rightly described the intervention as leadership that “speaks to the soul of the New Nigeria.” Education remains the most strategic investment any serious leader can make.
At a time when economic pressures threaten to push young Nigerians out of school, this initiative does more than pay fees, it preserves hope, stabilizes families, and secures the intellectual future of the state. Politically, it marks a shift from rhetoric to results, from promises to tangible compassion.
Equally important is the unifying message it sends.
A Senator from Kogi West deliberately including Kogi Central and Kogi East is a quiet rejection of divisive politics. It reinforces the idea that Kogi’s destiny is collective and indivisible. As Chief Onoja noted, this is how trust in governance is rebuilt, through actions people can feel and measure.
His call for other public office holders to emulate this example is both timely and strategic. Development does not happen by chance; it follows leadership that is equitable, intentional, and people centered.
When power is exercised with fairness, development becomes a lived reality, not just a slogan. In such an environment, political stability deepens, civic loyalty grows, and the social contract is strengthened.
Chief Onoja’s message to beneficiaries carries deeper significance. Scholarships are not mere welfare, they are investments with expectations. These students are being positioned as future ambassadors of a Kogi State that values unity, excellence, and service. Their success will validate the wisdom of this policy and extend its impact far beyond the current academic session.
In celebrating Senator Karimi’s initiative, Chief Onoja has rightly framed it not as an isolated act of generosity, but as a model of inclusive governance. When Kogi wins through such visionary leadership, Nigeria moves a step closer to the future it deserves.
