The Rector of Kogi State Polytechnic, Lokoja, Professor Salisu Ogbo Usman has commended Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo for his laudable investments in education sector.

Speaking at the flag-off ceremony of the Kogi State Bursary and Scholarship in Lokoja on Friday, Prof. Usman urged the state government to introduce a postgraduate scholarship scheme, emphasizing its critical role in enhancing the educational and economic prospects of the state.

Prof Usman cited states like Kano, Ebonyi, and Akwa Ibom, which have successfully implemented postgraduate sponsorship programs.

He noted that such initiatives would promote inclusivity, intellectual growth and equal opportunities for all students, while also curbing parochial and divisive sentiments.

He also lauded Governor Ododo for the sustained commitment to education, noting that he has been building upon the achievements of his predecessor, former Governor Yahaya Adoza Bello, CON.

He expressed gratitude to Governor Ododo for the payment of WAEC fees for Kogi state students, describing it as a significant intervention that alleviates financial burdens on parents and promotes universal access to secondary education.

He further commended Governor Ododo’s efforts in improving infrastructures and security architectures at the state’s tertiary institutions, specifically, the ongoing installation of CCTV cameras at Kogi State Polytechnic, Confluence University of Science and Technology, and Kogi State University, Kabba and the historic fencing project at the Itakpe campus of Kogi State Polytechnic which was inherited from Kwara State, describing it as a remarkable step in addressing the longstanding security concerns and strengthening its surveillance.

Prof. Usman applauded the appointment of Mr. Joseph Afolabi Raji to the Kogi State Scholarship Board, emphasizing that the board is undergoing rebranding to better serve the students of Kogi State.
