… as National Commission for Colleges of Education holds Summit
The Executive Secretary of the National Commission for Colleges of Education (NCCE), Prof.Paulinus Chijoke Okwelle, Has expressed Worries and Concern over the Challenges affecting the growth and development of Teacher education in Nigeria.
Professor Paulinus disclosed this in his wellcome address at the 2022 National Summit on the future of Nigeria Certificate in Education, with the theme”Nigeria Certificate in Education the way forward”organized by the National Commission for Colleges of Education (NCCE), Abuja,23-24 March,at the Commission’s headquarters.
The Executive Secretary expressed worries over dwidling enrollment of student in to Colleges of education, saying that student seeking admission in to Tertiary institutions prefer universities and polytechnics as their first and second choice of institution in spite of adequate human and material resources available in Colleges of education across the country, a situation which must be urgently addressed by identifying the factors which must have led to such low interest in the the pusuit of teacher education,he said.
Professor paulinus further identified proliferations of illegal Colleges of education as another area of major concern, a Development which according to him has led to poor quality of teachers and it multiplying effect, therefore affecting teachers education generally.
The summit was attended by stakeholders in the teacher education sector across the nation, and efforts was also geared towards providing workable solution to the challenges militating against the effectiveness of teacher education in the country…. Continue reading
