
Policy Sustainability Key To Enthroning Good Governance In Nigeria , – Says Oligbi-Edeko

Former Deputy Speaker of Edo State House of Assembly (EDHA), Rt. Honourable Mrs. Maria Oligbi-Edeko on Thursday restated that inconsistency with policy by government and political actors is responsible for the underdevelopment witnessed in the country.
Honourable Oligbi-Edeko emphasized that enthroning good governance requires sustainability of policy and not the reverse.
Oligbi-Edeko made the remarks when she was bestowed with an award of excellence by the Nigeria Economic Society (NES) Edo State Chapter at the University of Benin Ugbowo campus in Benin.
The lawmaker who represents Esan North-East Constituency II accused the ruling class of being self-centered, saying politicians are not willing to render “selfless service in Nigeria.”
Oligbi-Edeko described a situation where a new government would come in and abandon the developmental projects of the past government as unacceptable.
Oligbi-Edeko noted that recycling political opportunists had been the bane of the nation’s underdevelopment.
According to the Honourable member, there is a need for human capital development, recalling how the former administration in Edo State prioritized human capital development for the benefit of Edo people.
She added that delivering on infrastructure is part and parcel of enthroning good governance like promoting human capital development.
She stressed the need for policy sustainability to move the state forward by making sure there’s a balance in terms of infrastructure and human capital development.
“Policy should be sustained regardless of political affiliation. Politicians don’t think about the people. It’s time the people rise up to demand accountability from their leaders and government. “Oligbi-Edeko said.
While receiving the award, she thanked the Edo state Chapter of the Nigeria Economic Society (NES) for the honour and dedicated the award to the girl child who is less cared for by the society.
According to her , she is the first female commissioner from her community in Esan North-East Constituency II. hence appreciates the honour done to a woman in her person.
Also, a former lawmaker and Erstwhile Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly (EDHA), Francis Okiye was also bestowed with an award of excellence by the Nigeria Economic Society (NES) Edo State Chapter at the University of Benin.
Okiye, who said the honour is a call to service, hailed the Nigeria Economic Society (NES) Edo State Chapter for being a credible research body dedicated to promoting knowledge, research, and development (R&D).
Okiye who assured of his support to the body, said he believed in supporting the academia to drive research and development and pledged that his doors remain open at all times to contribute to knowledge discourse.
