As political permutations intensify ahead of the 2027 elections in Kogi State, one formidable political structure is quietly regaining momentum—the Audu/Faleke Political Family. Though born out of an electoral tragedy in 2015, this movement has proven resilient, disciplined, and deeply rooted in the consciousness of the people. With a powerful blend of legacy, grassroots loyalty, and national influence, the Audu/Faleke family is not just remembered—they are poised for power. Their political capital remains intact, their structures are reawakening, and their credibility to win is arguably stronger than ever.
The origin of this political family can be traced back to the towering legacy of Prince Abubakar Audu, the first Executive Governor of Kogi State. As a pioneer leader, he laid a solid foundation for development across sectors. Audu’s tenure is still revered today for its investments in education, health, and infrastructure. His 2015 alliance with Hon. James Abiodun Faleke, a strategic and nationally connected figure, formed one of the most formidable political partnerships in the state’s history. Their joint ticket under the All Progressives Congress (APC) was widely accepted across Kogi’s senatorial districts, particularly in Kogi East and Kogi West.
Tragically, Prince Audu passed away shortly before the 2015 gubernatorial results were officially declared, sparking a constitutional dilemma and political controversy. Rather than allow Faleke—his running mate—to step in, the party hierarchy nominated another candidate, which many considered unjust. Faleke declined the offer to serve as deputy governor under the replacement and pursued justice through the courts. While he lost the legal battle, he won the hearts of many across Kogi State for his courage and principled stand. It was this experience that birthed the Audu/Faleke Political Family—a movement bound by shared values, electoral justice, and a determination to preserve Audu’s vision for the state.
Over the years, while other political groups have splintered under the weight of opportunism and leadership tussles, the Audu/Faleke family has remained remarkably united. The enduring bond among its loyalists lies in their commitment to the principles of equity, inclusive governance, and fair political representation. Despite political shifts and realignments in Kogi State, the family’s core members have remained focused, quietly nurturing structures at the grassroots level.
Their strength is not just sentimental—it is structural and strategic. Across the 21 local government areas of Kogi, the family still commands respect through its ward coordinators, youth ambassadors, women leaders, and former political appointees. These loyalists continue to engage their communities and maintain the family’s relevance. Emotionally, the legacy of Prince Audu still resonates strongly, especially in Kogi East. His name is remembered in households, religious institutions, and palaces as a leader who brought dignity and progress to the people. Faleke’s ongoing commitment to public service and community development, especially through federal constituency projects and philanthropic outreach, further reinforces the family’s relevance across Kogi West and beyond.
Moreover, Hon. James Faleke’s national political relevance as a ranking federal lawmaker and close ally of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu places the family in a uniquely strategic position. With access to federal influence and networks, the family has the capacity to draw both resources and alliances that could significantly shape electoral outcomes in the state. As 2027 approaches, this leverage could become a game-changer if properly deployed.
Equally important is the family’s credibility. They are not linked to corruption scandals, nor have they been seen jumping from party to party for political convenience. They are regarded as consistent, principled, and people-focused. Their reputation for empowering ordinary citizens, promoting peaceful politics, and defending the democratic process gives them an edge in a political climate where credibility is in short supply.
To fully reclaim their place in the political frontlines, however, deliberate steps must be taken. The family must immediately convene a grand stakeholders’ summit to review past strategies, reunite all factions, and build a forward-looking structure. They should develop a clear manifesto anchored on the continuation of Prince Audu’s vision, adapted to modern challenges like digital governance, youth unemployment, education reform, and rural development.
Simultaneously, they must re-activate their grassroots machinery—appointing zonal and ward coordinators, engaging youth influencers, women groups, and community leaders. A well-funded social intervention program such as medical outreaches, scholarships, and town hall engagements will help reignite the people’s faith.
Most importantly, Hon. Faleke must return to the political centre of Kogi affairs. Whether he chooses to contest in 2027 or not, his presence, endorsement, and leadership are vital. A visible and active Faleke in Kogi State sends a clear signal that the family is ready for a new chapter.
In a state yearning for sincerity, unity, and purposeful leadership, the Audu/Faleke Political Family stands out as a credible alternative.
