By joshua Peter Willie Applauds Governor Otu for Reclaiming Cross River’s Economic Rights
Development economist, Peter Willie, has applauded Governor Bassey Edet Otu for the restoration of Cross River State’s oil-producing status, describing the recovery of three oil wells as a significant economic milestone for the state.
According to Willie, the development goes beyond the recovery of oil assets, as it represents the restoration of an important economic opportunity capable of strengthening Cross River’s revenue base, attracting investment, creating jobs and supporting sustainable development.
He commended Governor Otu for his determination and persistence in pursuing the matter, noting that leadership requires the courage to defend the legitimate economic interests of the people.
“Governor Otu deserves commendation for demonstrating the political will and persistence required to reclaim what rightfully belongs to Cross River. This is not simply about three oil wells; it is about reclaiming an economic opportunity and opening a new chapter for our people,” Willie said.
The development economist, however, urged the Governor to ensure that the benefits of the reclaimed oil assets are translated into tangible improvements in the lives of Cross Riverians, particularly in infrastructure, education, healthcare, youth employment and industrial development.
He also advised the state to use the opportunity as a catalyst for economic diversification rather than becoming overly dependent on oil revenue.
“Oil should not be the destination; it should be a catalyst for building a stronger and more diversified Cross River economy,” he added.
Willie congratulated Governor Otu and the people of Cross River State, describing the development as “a reclaimed economic opportunity and, potentially, a reclaimed future for the people of Cross River.”
