Parliament Remains The Beauty Of Democracy- Senator Nwebonyi

The Senator representing Ebonyi North Senatorial district and Deputy Chairman, Senate Special Committee on Public Accounts, Senator Barrister Peter Onyekachi Nwebonyi has described the parliament as the beauty of democracy all over the world.

This was contained in a press statement signed and made available to newsmen in Abakaliki by his media aide Mr Romanus Uzor in Abakaliki, the State capital.

According to the Statement, the Federal lawmaker noted that democracy everywhere is beautified by the parliament; hence, the past forms of government had no Legislative arms but the contemporary democracy is complemented by the legislature.

He emphasized that the 10th National Assembly has played crucial roles in reclaiming the coveted title of Nigeria as the giant of Africa.

“ The Legislature is one of the essential elements of democracy meaning that the parliament is the face of democracy because in any other form of government, we can have the executive and the judiciary but we never have the parliament. So far so good, we are doing well as a nation and I believe that more are coming.”

The astute legal luminary and federal legislator maintained that the 10th Senate is complementing the efforts of the federal government to reclaim the title of giant of Africa noting that there were hitches which hitherto stalled the attainment of this lofty cadre but luckily, the 10th Senate has come to the rescue.

“ So far so good, as a member of the 10th Senate, we came up, within the last three months, we have been in the Senate, with life-touching and people-oriented policies and programmes all geared towards making Nigerians happy. I have always defined leadership as voluntary acceptance to carry the burden of the led and not the other way round.”

In a related development, Senator Nwebonyi admitted that Nigerians are facing a lot of hardships due to the aftermath of the fuel subsidy removal. He however, noted that this pragmatic step taken by the Tinubu led administration will soon yield bountiful dividends to all Nigerians. He called on Nigerians to keep faith with the Renewed Hope Agenda as everything good will soon come.

“Some pragmatic steps have been taken by the Federal Government to reposition the economy, especially the removal of fuel subsidy; even though it’s biting hard on the citizenry, it’s a mandatory and compulsory sacrifice that we must make to move from one step to another. I believe that in no time the positive effects of the removal of fuel subsidy will come up and I assure you that Nigerians will be happy.”

Senator Nwebonyi submitted that the 10th Senate has rolled out massive people-oriented policies and programmes to better the lots of Nigerians. He recalled that he moved the first motion on the floor of the 10th Senate against extortion and harassment of road users by men in uniforms. He expressed optimism that Nigeria under President Tinubu shall soon witness accelerated all-round developments.
