Our Major Focus In This New Dispensation Aside Building, Renovation of Schools is Monitoring and Supervision – Kogi Education Commissioner
Kogi State Commissioner For Education Science and Technology, Hon Wemi Jones Says his Ministry’s mandate in this new dispensation will be to focus majorly on Monitoring and supervision of Schools.
The Commissioner made the disclosure in a chat with Newsmen, says his Ministry’s priority having achieved so much in building the educational infrastructure, the Ministry will strive to strengthen the Inspectorate division of the Ministry.
He added that the State Government under the leadership of Alhaji Usman Ahmed Ododo is committed to sustaining the building of new schools as well as renovation, but stressed that the aspect of monitoring will however be more pronounced in the new dispensation.
” We intend to devout more of our energy to looking at the Private Schools. The Secondary Schools in terms of conduct of our teachers and what they are teaching our children”.
” We are not stopping anybody with the money to build schools. But after building and recruiting teachers. We must make sure that the buildings, equipment are channeled towards the betterment of curriculum as our area of focus”.
” The Ministry is now going to be more concerned through our monitoring and Inspectorate division to check the contents and quality of teaching that is given to our students in schools as our new major focus”.
The Commissioner For Education disclosed that his Ministry, going forward, will put Private Schools on their toes while placing emphasis also on the Public Schools in the State.
” Our reason and focus for Monitoring and supervision of our schiols is to ensure value for Money”.
” While the State Government has made it a policy to pay WAEC, JAMB and other fees for students. The idea is not about paying the fees to serve as a relief to parents. Our emphasis with the monitoring and supervision is for our students to be taught well so as to pass the various examinations the State Government is paying for with flying colours and good grades”.
” Parents will also get the positive impact of what the government is doing through the payment of all examination fees for public schools in the State when their children perform excellently in the various examinations”.
” We want to be deliberate and not to just throw away money through trying to reduce the burden of parents in the payment of examination fees. We are concerned about churning out students who will successfully enter and fill our State Universities that we are building”.
The Commissioner described the education sector of the State as one that was an envy in the last administration, expressed confidence that the present administration of Gov. Ododo is committed to building on the legacies, as well as surpass previous achievements.
