…..On his kneel

…..On his kneel

People will always have different take aways in an occasion of the magnitude of the GYB Primary Health Centre Takete-Ide Commissioning, an event that moved Kogi Executive Council to Amuro led by Pharm Asuku the COS to His Excellency Alhaji Yahaya Bello.

One particular scene has remained with me playing back and rewinding. It is not the picture of the magnificent edifice housing sophisticated medical equipments neither was I suprised by the philanthropic gesture to donate by Hon Fanwo. He has always been a passionate giver. So, he was to me doing what he has always done.

Something struck me when KFF was handed the microphone for his speech. His kneels dropped, hitting the hot dusty ground and everything seized and freezed into unusual calmness. The drums stopped, singing and the atmosphere turned and all eyes were glued to the man on his kneels. What else did he want? What did he want to say?

Where I was seated almost directly opposite the COS Pharm Jamiu Asuku, I saw him dropped the program of event on the table and concentrated all attention on the man kneeling. He must be saying “What is it Fanwo?” in his heart.

All hearts at the event beat faster than normal in suspense.

KFF broke it.

It was the issue of the most important road in Amuro. The Orokere, Aiyede, Takete-Ide that connects other Amuro villages like Oroke, Takete to Ijumu local govt and Kabba Bunu local government. Produce sales and lumbering activities the mainstay of survival of our people is threatened by the bad state of the road. KFF drew the attention of the State Government to the Owohwo bridge and the road referring to it as ‘ *his shame* ‘ in that unusual way the COS will definitely remember to discuss with his Boss for positive result.

It almost turned to an emotional moment for me. The delivery, the timing, the action, the wisdom all motivated by love for his community and humanity moved me to tears. With shaky hands, I managed to capture the scene with high hope that the road will get the required attention and that picture should remain in the hearts of every progressive Amuro man.
