By joshua OKUN UNITY DIALOGUE HONOURS KOGI FINANCE COMMISSIONER, ASIRU IDRIS AS “PROUD OKUN SON” FOR A DECADE OF CONSISTENT SERVICE
The Okun Unity Dialogue at the weekend honoured the Kogi State Commissioner for Finance, Budget and Economic Planning, Asiwaju Asiru Idris, describing him as a proud Okun son whose commitment to the development of Okunland has remained consistent in the last decade.
The recognition was held in Abuja during the maiden edition of the Okun Unity Dialogue, an initiative conceived to foster unity, synergy and development among Okun sons and daughters across Nigeria and in the diaspora.
In a citation presented to the Commissioner, the organizers described Asiwaju Asiru Idris as one of the most consistent and committed voices for Okunland, noting that he has continued to use his position in government to attract opportunities, infrastructure and empowerment programs that better the lot of the Okun people.
“Over the last decade, Asiwaju Asiru Idris has remained a dependable pillar for Okunland. He has not only represented us well at the state level, but has also ensured that the interest of Okun people is reflected in the policy and budgetary direction of Kogi State,” the citation read in part.
Speaking at the event, stakeholders from the seven Okun LGAs, Ijumu, Kabba-Bunu, Lokoja, Mopa-Muro, Yagba East, Yagba West, praised the Commissioner for his fiscal discipline, transparency and strategic leadership in managing the state’s finances under the administration of Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo.
They noted that his stewardship at the Ministry of Finance, Budget and Economic Planning has helped stabilize the state economy, improve Internally Generated Revenue, and ensure the timely execution of developmental projects across the state, including Okunland.
Responding, Asiwaju Asiru Idris expressed gratitude to the organizers for the honour, and dedicated the recognition to all Okun sons and daughters working for the progress of the land.
He reaffirmed his commitment to continue to leverage his office to promote unity, attract investment, and support initiatives that will create jobs and improve the wellbeing of the people of Okunland.
“I remain, and will continue to be, a proud Okun son. Whatever position we occupy is an opportunity to serve our people and to ensure that Okunland takes its rightful place in Kogi State and Nigeria,” he said.
The Okun Unity Dialogue featured panel discussions, cultural displays and goodwill messages from traditional rulers, professionals and political leaders, all centered on building a united and prosperous Okun nation.
The event concluded with a call for greater collaboration among Okun elites to drive economic development, education, and security in the area.
