NSCDC Kogi Command Clears the Air, Says Mr. Bunmi David Ipinnaiye Didn’t Die in Cell.


 

Sulieman Ibrahim Mafara, the Kogi State, Commandant Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps has clarified the air on the death of the Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Ponyan Ward, Yagba East Local Government Area, Mr. Bunmi David Ipinnaiye.

 

 

Mr. Bunmi Ipinnaiye was arrested by officers and men of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) for attempted murder. He was alledged to have committed suicide while in the Cell.

Speaking with Newsmen in his office in Lokoja, the Commandant said Mr. Bunmi died at ECWA Hospital Ponyon and not at the cell of the NSCDC.

Throwing more light on the alledged suicide as reported in some section of the media, the Commandant said Mr. Bunmi, 42 year old, was arrested by the NSCDC following report that he wanted to behead a young boy who was making advances to his daughter.

Following the report to behead the boy, the Commandant said Mr. Bunmi was arrested on the 7th of June 2022. The Commandant said he was arrested with the cutlass he was using to chase the boy chasing his 19 year old daughter and brought to the office.

While he was detained at the counter, the Commandant said they tried counselling him in a bid to calm him down when he suddenly asked for a bottle of water.

The Commandant said unknown to the Officer who went to get him the water that Mr. Bunmi had a negative plan, met him gasping for breath.

He said upon the return of the officer, he met Mr. Bunmi who was suspected to have tried to strangulate himself, quickly rushed him to the hospital.

He disclosed that after a while and efforts to stabilize him, the Medical Doctor confirmed Mr. Bunmi dead, said he didn’t die while in NSCDC custody and detention.

The Commandant advised the media to always cross check information with a view to providing a balance and accurate report.

The Commandant said Mr. Bunmi did not commit suicide in Civil Defence cell as claimed in some section of the media.
