The Kogi State Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Hon. Wemi Jones, says no State Governor has shown commitment to funding education in Nigeria like Gov. Yahaya Bello.
The Education Commissioner made the disclosure during the Monitoring and Inspection of the Basic Education subsector of the State by the National Media Team of the All Progressives Congress, said Kogi State budgeted 20% of its entire budget for education in 2021 but disclosed that it may go beyond that in 2022.
He added that if things go as planned, Gov. Yahaya Bello has reiterated his commitment to making the budget 30% in the coming year, said no State Governor has done that in Nigeria.
Hon. Wemi Jones stressed that Gov. Bello is irrevocably committed to funding the education sector as a whole and not only the Basic Education subsector, said for now no State is doing what Kogi State Government is doing to education in terms of funding.
According to him, Gov. Bello’s passion for education is hinged on the fact that it is the bedrock for sustainable development, maintained that the Governor believes that if you invest in educational infrastructure, you would have succeeded in building a stronger future not only the generation yet unborn but building a better society.
He assured that the visit by the APC National Media Team would open the state to the outstanding efforts of Gov. Bello in the educational sector, described the present administration as meeting the yearning and aspirations of the people not only in the Basic Education subsector but in all facet of the Sector in the State.
