NNSS OKURA HOLDS CAREER DAY


 

 

The outgoing Junior secondary school Students of the Nigerian Navy Secondary school Okura, Kogi State will not forget Tuesday 1st of June 2022 in a hurry as they were made to listen to series of Professionals who lectured them on career choices as they prepare to enter the Senior secondary School (SSS).

 

The Commandant of the school, Navy Commander N.A Obiajulu who was instrumental to the career day lecture and who has since noticed the versatility of the indefatigable Chairman of NNSS Okura Lokoja PTA chapter, engaged him in getting Professionals in their various career.

 

The career talk which featured areas like Medicine, Pharmacy, Medical and Laboratory Science , Engineering, Law, Journalism, Computer Science, Business Administration, Army and others profession was a big eye opener for the young aspiring JSS 3 students who all through the career talk, listened with rapt attention.

 

During the course of the career talk, the students were made to know the different jobs definition, the subjects they need to register for during the Senior Certificate Examination, SSCE, WAEC, NECO and other affiliated examinations.

They were also made to know the subjects to register for the UTME Examination, admission requirements, duration of the courses, financial implication of the courses, the personality needed for the job, the job prospects, how you can advance on the job and of course the job hazard.

The feedback segment of the career talk was an indication that the students were indeed highly intelligent and sure know the reason why the career talk was put together for them.

Questions like which University offers Aeronautic Engineering? what are the hazards in Journalism as a profession? Is Architecture same as Engineering are some of the intelligent questions asked by the students which were well dealt with by the guests.

Comrade Samuel Obajemu who is the present PTA Chairman NNSS OKURA, Lokoja chapter, a Medical Laboratory Scientist was one of the resource persons at the career day talk. Others are Barr. Walliam Ameh who is an Executive member of NNSS Okura PTA Lokoja chapter, Dr. Peter, a Pharmacist at Kogi State University Teaching hospital, Engr Obaje Mohammed of Ajaokuta steel company, Lt Col Audu, Millitary Officer at NNSS IKURA and Edoka Stella, a veteran Journalist with Radio Nigeria Kogi State.

It would be recalled that Comrade Samuel Obajemu led administration took over since the helms of affairs of the PTA in February 2022 alongside other Executive members, has displayed quality Leadership by registering the association with appropriate bodies, rendered a formidable/comfortable transport arrangements to the students, ensured quality academic standard and outstanding performance of students by organizing extra mural class for SS 3 and JSS 3 Students during the holidays.

He has completely bridge the communication gap between the school and the Parents and ensured that the welfare of the students is his priority.

He also appealed to the state Government through the Honorable Commissioner of Education to support the school with computers, which will qualify the school to be made a CBT Centre for JAMB, thereby reducing the strenuous exodus of students to other far centres for their examinations.

The Commandant of the school, Navy Commander OBIAJULU who could not hide his joy appreciated Comrade Samuel Obajemu and all the invited guest on the success of the program.

In his speech, the commandant advised the outgoing JSS 3 students to make judicious use of their holidays by engaging in extra classes to prepare them for the senior class.

He also drew their attention to the need to acquire skill in Shoe making and learning works like Electronics, computers and others. He further reiterated that, this would help them after school, particularly when white colar jobs are not readily accessible.
