And on the 47th birthday anniversary of Chief Engr. Abubakar Mohammed Bashir Gegu, Commissioner for Solid Minerals and Natural Resources, Kogi State, the Publisher says he is celebrating more than a Commissioner, he is celebrating a staying power, a loyal friend and a consistent believer in the Nigerian Post dream.
In a heartfelt tribute personally signed by the Publisher, Abu Micheal described Engr. Bashir Gegu as one of the earliest and most dependable pillars that gave the Nigerian Post strength to stand, to grow and to remain a leading community voice in Kogi State and beyond. He recalled with nostalgia how in 2019/2020, when the newspaper’s journey was still facing the usual storms of growth, Engr. Gegu was among the first public figures to identify with excellence, when he sent a glowing congratulatory message to the Publisher for emerging Arewa Journalist of the Year at the prestigious Awards of Productivity in Arewa, PAPA, held at the Royal Tropicana Hotel, Kano. In that statement then, Engr. Bashir Gegu had described the award as well deserved, as a reward for hard work and passion, and urged the Publisher not to rest on his oars, but to remain simple, humble and committed to grassroots developmental journalism. For Abu Micheal, that singular act of encouragement captured the essence of the man Bashiru Gegu is.
Today, that bond has blossomed into a partnership for development. Abu Micheal noted that Engr. Bashiru Gegu is not just a Commissioner, he is a technocrat whose transition from the field of engineering into public service reflects the impact of applying knowledge, precision and dedication to nation building. As Commissioner for Solid Minerals and Natural Resources and Chairman of the State Mineral Resources and Environmental Management Committee, MI-REMCO, he has brought uncommon professionalism to the governance of Kogi’s vast solid mineral wealth, strengthening regulation, curbing illegal mining, improving environmental compliance and building a new architecture of trust between government, investors and host communities.
The Publisher said what distinguishes Engr. Gegu is that he governs with both competence and compassion. Beyond official duties, his footprints are visible in Gegu-Beki, Kogi Local Government Area and across Kogi State through quiet but consistent interventions in education, healthcare, youth and women empowerment and community development.
