The Nigeria Union of Teachers Niger State wing has refuted the earlier claim credited to the Head of Service, that the state government has fully implemented the (30,000.00) minimum wage and has review upward the salary of civil servants in the state including Teachers.
In a Press release issue to Newsmen and signed by the state Chairman, Comrade Akayago Adamu Mohammed and Principal Assistant Secretary General, Comrade Labaran Garba said that the Union vehemently refute the statement.
He said that the true position on the minimum wage for Teachers in the state,is that in February 2020,it was observed that the salary table prepared was found to be inconsistent and characterized with gross anomalies where qualified Teachers salary was less than that of the unqualified Teachers.
He stated that the implementation was carried out for only two months for category of Teachers on grade levels 1-6 who are not professionals.
According to the statement,in the year 2018 the state government reviewed upward the salaries of all the civil servants on grade levels (GL) salary structure by 25%, ignoring the Teachers at both Primary and secondary Schools.
He said that Teachers who are least paid in the state have not enjoyed promotion and annual increment since 2015, particularly at the Primary schools level.
The statement added,in view of the above,it is evidence that the Head of service claim and statement is not correct as it neglects the earlier agreement reached between the state government and the Union.
The Union therefore called for immediate retraction of the statement made by the Head of service and direct for the full implementation of the 30,000.00 minimum wage and consequential salary adjustment for the respective categories of Teachers in the state as claimed.
