NIGERIA ANNOUNCES INDEFINITE SUSPENSION OF TWITTER OPERATIONS


A government statement cited “persistent use of the platform for activities capable of undermining Nigeria’s corporate existence.”

This followed Twitter’s deletion of a tweet credited to President Muhammadu Buhari on alleged threat to deal with groups seeking self-determination in Nigeria.

Twitter recently announced its plans to locate its West African headquarters in Ghana, overlooking Nigeria with the highest number of  users of the platform, citing freedom of expression as one of the criteria.
