Nexia International Celebrates ‘Nexia Week 2023’ In Grand Style

Nexia International, a renowned global network of independent accounting and consulting firms, commemorates Nexia Week across 122 countries. This year’s Nexia Week focuses on the essential principles of Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG).

The event serves as a platform to showcase the firm’s dedication to the environment, community, and all stakeholders involved, including employees and clients. It further emphasises the firm’s continued commitment to upholding ethical business practices.

Here in Nigeria, Nexia Agbo Abel & Co. (Nexia Nigeria) joined other Nexia member firms across the world to celebrate Nexia Week 2023, an annual week-long event that consists of activities designed to impact the community, celebrate the Nexia brand and build camaraderie among employees.

Kicking up the event, the Chairman of Nexia Agbo Abel & Co., Mr Abel A. Onyeke, in his statement during the opening ceremony, reaffirmed the firm’s mission to be the preferred multi-disciplinary professional advisory firm.

He emphasised the firm’s commitment to adding value to its clients, staff, and the environment. Mr Onyeke assured clients that the firm would continue to deliver exceptional service in the critical areas of assurance, tax, and advisory, focusing on maintaining high-quality standards in all engagements.

During the opening ceremony, the Managing Partner, Mr Alexander K. Peddler, highlighted the firm’s strong dedication to employee well-being, eco-friendliness, and ethical business operations.

He emphasised the importance of Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles in fostering long-term economic prosperity, social well-being, and environmental stewardship. Mr Peddler also highlighted the firm’s strategic expansion into sustainability consulting, process automation, data management, and cybersecurity, which align with sustainable practices and promote ethical conduct in business operations.

The event, which took place in Abuja, Lagos, and Kaduna, began with an insightful presentation on ESG, where experts shared practical ways to live eco-friendly lifestyles, reduce carbon footprints, improve employee mental well-being, and ensure ethical business practices.

The presentation emphasised Nexia’s commitment to a sustainable future, not only in business but also in the broader global context.

A notable highlight of the week was the heartwarming orphanage visit and tree-planting activity, Nexia Agbo Abel & Co. employees had the chance to interact with the children, spreading smiles and warmth in the orphanage. The tree planting session exemplified the firm’s efforts in contributing to the environment and leaving a lasting impact on the local ecosystem.

Jabi Lake Abuja is a cherished natural asset of the community; it is a lake bordered by a recreational park on one side and one of Abuja’s largest malls on another. Armed with gloves and trash bags, Nexia Agbo Abel & Co. employees conducted a clean-up activity on the park side of the lake, picking up debris and litter along the lakeshore to restore its pristine beauty.

The firm’s dedication to coastal preservation was evident during beach cleaning activities in Lagos. Employees took the lead in picking up litter along the coastline, exemplifying how small actions can contribute to the greater good of marine ecosystems.

To further demonstrate their commitment to community service, Nexia employees in Kaduna engaged in market and street cleaning activities and traffic control. The initiative improved the overall cleanliness of the various locations and fostered a sense of civic responsibility among everyone involved.

While most of the Nexia Week activities focused on giving back to the external community, Nexia Agbo Abel & Co. also emphasised the importance of her internal community – Its employees. Employee wellness is a big part of the Nexia Agbo Abel & Co culture.

The firm’s employees had time to unwind and bond in a relaxed atmosphere engaging in friendly competition through indoor and outdoor games such as board games, tennis matches, video games, laser tag, and other fun activities.

At an event to close Nexia Week 2023, the firm’s Partner, Tax Services, Mr Aliu O. Yesufu, thanked all employees for a successful event and highlighted the firm’s dedication to high-quality services to clients, sustainability, community, and employee happiness.
