N-HYPPADEC Hands over 4 operational fiber glass boat engines to Kogi State Government.

 

The National Hydroelectric Power Producing Areas Development Commission (N-HYPPADEC), has handed over 4 operational fiber glass boat engines to the Kogi State Government.

 

Speaking at the official handing over ceremony of the fiber glass boat engine, the Kogi State Commissioner For Transport, Hon. Atuluku Levi, who received the boats on behalf of the State Government, described the gesture as one that is in line with the policy administration of Gov. Usman Ahmed Ododo in making life easy and meaningful in the Marine transportation sector.

In his remarks, Mr. Micheal Omeiza Ajayi, Kogi State Acting Coordinator of N-HYPPADEC, reiterated the Commission’s resolved to impacting host Communities.

The Coordinator stressed the resolve by the Commission to eliminating the sufferings of people, particularly in the Marine transportation sector.

Aside the boat engines, the Coordinator said safety remains the watchwords of the Commission, reason for the donation of safety life jackets for operators of the boat and for use in major jetties in the State.

The Coordinator explained that following the 2025 predictions from NIMET about the impeding flooding that may affect the State, said the boats will enhance movement of people and goods in the event of the flooding.

The Acting State Coordinator disclosed that the Commission has equally given out life jackets to Maritime Union and operators of boats across the needed communities, called for strict adherence to ensure safety on the waterways.

While pointing out that the Commission has begun advocacy visits to communities and to sensitize them on the need to move to upland, urged them to clear their drainages to allow for smooth flow of water into the River Niger.

The State Coordinator urged for the use of boats by the State Government for the purposes intended, said the Commission looks forward to areas of more partnership towards making lives habitable for people living in riverine Communities.

Speaking before the officially handing over, the Kogi State Commissioner For Transport, Hon. Atuluku Levi, spoke about the attention the State Government has made in the marine transportation sector.

He assured of government commitment to making the water transport system of the State affordable, comfortable and safe.

The Commissioner said the administration of Gov Usman Ahmed Ododo has made improved infrastructure, stricter regulations, and increased public awareness on marine transport a priority.

He added that the measures focuses on preventing accidents, minimizing casualties, and promoting responsible behavior on waterways.

The Commissioner expressed the appreciation of the State Government to the N-HYPPADEC, assured of effective utilization of the boats.

Also speaking, Alh. Abdullahi Bala Yusuf, District Maritime Chairman, lauded the immeasurable contributions of N-HYPPADEC to improving safety and ease of doing business on the waterways sector in the State, assured of effective utilization of the boats and life safety jackets.

Highlights of the event was the official handing over of the boats, life jackets.
