Today, 5th November, 2020 I represented my leader and the honourable commissioner of Finance, Budget and Economic planning, Mukadam Asiwaju Asiru Idris, FCA at the 2020 press week of the Nigerian Union of Journalist(NUJ), Kogi state Council where he was the special guest of honour.

L-R: Myself, Kogi NUJ chairman; Comrade Adeiza Momoh Jimoh and National NUJ president; Comrade Chris Isiguzo

In his short remark, I  tendered an unreserved apology on his behalf for his inability to attend in person, saying it was due to pressing state assignment outside lokoja he needs to attend.

He also registered his sincere appreciation to the entire council and the executives in particular, led by Comrade Adeiza Momoh Jimoh for counting him worthy and qualified as the special guest of honour for the day.

In his words,” The press is the conscience of the society, therefore, the council must continue to uphold the ethics and standard of the profession through balanced and unbiased reportage. Also, our nascent democracy will only improve, if we have a vibrant, uncompromising and undistracted press, hence, it’s imperative the council maintains it esteem position as an informative, peaceful  and development agent in the society.

He called on the council to continue to support the Governor Yahaya Adoza Bello led administration in amplifying the modest achievements of the administration, but most especially to act as an ombudsman in critiquing the government when there are lapses.

As a council, continue to find in me a friend, partner and self acclaimed honarary member of the fourth  estate of the realm, Asiwaju stated.

He Congratulated the council and wished her the best as we collectively progress in the quest to build the state and nation.
