Mopamuro Students Unite for Progress and Sustainable Development
Mopa, Kogi State – 7th March 2026
Student leaders and stakeholders from Mopa and Amuro gathered for the Mopamuro Students Stakeholders Engagement, themed “Uniting Mopamuro Students for Progress and Sustainable Development.” The meeting was convened and hosted by Cde. Sunday Adeola Simon, National President of the National Association of Kogi State Students (NAKOSS), and brought together past and present student leaders, union executives, and stakeholders to deliberate on strategies for strengthening student unionism, promoting political neutrality, and ensuring the welfare and security of students.
The engagement provided a platform for robust discussions on the challenges and prospects of student leadership. Participants emphasized the importance of unity, transparency, and accountability as the backbone of effective student governance. Guest Speaker Dr. Mercy Alepa-Oyebode delivered an insightful presentation on basic security measures, highlighting awareness, communication, and preparedness as key steps for safeguarding student communities.
Among the resolutions reached, participants committed to:
Promoting academic excellence, leadership development, and community service among students.
Strengthening collaboration between past and present leaders to ensure continuity and stability within student unions.
Reviving and restructuring the National Association of Mopamuro Students (NAMS) to foster unity among all student bodies in the Local Government Area.
Maintaining political neutrality, ensuring the student union does not endorse any political aspirant, candidate, or party.
The engagement also commended Mopamuro’s state and local government leadership, the Traditional Council of Chiefs, the NAKOSS National President, and student stakeholders for their unwavering support and commitment to student welfare. Participants expressed optimism about the future of student unionism in Mopamuro, pledging to work together to build a stronger, more united, and progressive student community.
The meeting concluded with a collective call for responsible leadership, active student participation, and collaboration toward sustainable development in the Local Government Area.
