Ministry of water resources begins disconnection of karaworo, Maigari palace waterlines over broken pipes.
The Kogi State Ministry For Water Resources will from tomorrow, May 15th, 2025, begin the disconnection of Water lines in and around old Lokoja township where the residents inspite repeated appeals and stakeholders engagement have refused to fix their broken pipes and replace taps.
The Kogi State Commissioner For Water Resources made the disclosure shortly after the repairs and release of water from Tank B, supplying water to Karaworo and Maigari Palace.
“The major problem faced in carrying water from tank B to the old Lokoja township has been resolved. We have released water from Tank B, but we just observed that many water users, individuals and several compound still allow wastage. This is as a refusal to fix and replace broken pipes and replace taps in their houses”.
The Commissioner said men of the Ministry have begun the tracing of the water connection lines from Juket end down to Karaworo and Maigari Palace all in an effort to fix the areas of leakages on the water works distribution lines.
The Commissioner however warned that every other leakages to individual lines and compound that have not been fixed leading to wastege will lead to disconnection.
He further warned that anyone who later goes back to illegally connect to the water lines, said the law will take it course on such individual.
The Commissioner explained that with the major work now carried out and completed leading to release of water from tank B, water can now be effectively supplied and rotated to communities in and around the old township.
The Commissioner lamented situation in which taps in individual compounds are broken down leading to wastage of water, with the people expecting the State Government to come and fix such pipes, after the huge cost spent by the Government, lamented that this has been the situation in the last six months, would no longer be allowed to continue.
Similarly, the Commissioner lamented that despite the various engagements with stakeholders to take ownership of Government infrastructure in their areas, expressed dismay that the people are still not yielding to the call.
