MASS PROTEST ROCKS YAGBA WEST OVER THE ILLEGAL ACQUISITION OF OBAJANA CEMENT BY DANGOTE INDUSTRIES LIMITED


 

The people of Yagba West Local Government area of Kogi State today trouped out in numbers to protest against what they described as illegal and immoral acquisition of Obajana Cement Company and the continuous economic exploitation by Dangote Industries Limited.

 

The protesters who were seen marching through the federal roads across the Local government arears carrying placards with different inscriptions showing their displeasure over the questionable manners Dangote Industries Limited took over what belongs to Kogi people.

Recall that the Kogi State Government has raised alarm over what it described as illegal acquisition of Obajana Cement Industries, a company owned by Kogi State government and non-remittance of the State government’s dividends on its equity shares.

The Kogi State Government also complained about Dangote Industries not showing commitment in its Corporate Social Responsibilities to the host communities who are exposed to various hazards as a result of huge emissions from the production plants.

Hence, the protest is in solidarity with the efforts of the government of Kogi State under the leadership of His Excellency, Alhaji Yahaya Bello to recover Kogi assets back for the benefit of Kogi people.

Receiving the protesters in his office, the Executive Chairman of Yagba West, Hon. Pius Kolawole, commended the people for the peaceful conduct of the protest, assuring them of the preparedness of the government of Alhaji Yahaya Bello to doing everything to protect the interest of the good people of Kogi State.

“I wish to acknowledged with thanks your peaceful conduct, and to assure you that your message will be delivered appropriately to the Governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Yahaya Bello.” The Council boss said.
