Major Akerejola Speaks On Kogi Govt’s Closure of Markets, Motor Parks
The Closure of some Markets and Motor Parts in response to insecurity situation in Kogi State has been commended.
Hon. Major Olafimihan Akerejola made the disclosure in a statement, described the action as proactive, however cautioned that Government action must be timed.
He added that such decision must not be long and indefinite otherwise it could be counterproductive.
While noting that the bandits aim to create fear amongst the citizenry, give impression to the public of an ungovernable or failed state, he said as commendable as Government action may be, it must not last longer than necessary, else it will assume that the position of Government itself is aiding and abetting the bandits in their overall objectives.
He said what govt should do is to encourage Security Agencies to up it’s games. “Share intelligence and information. Once, there is operational activities carried out by border States, without been told Kogi Security Agencies is to intensify it’s activities at the adjourning borders of Local Government Areas areas and place it security agencies on alert”.
He called for increase physical presence of security agencies in flashpoint and in addition, order vigilante groups in moving and assisting border LGA in anticipated need.
While he commended Security Agencies for doing great job, he however demand
more importantly, NATIONAL SURVEILLANCE PLAN.
He urge Nigeria, Kogi State to take the lead with the provision of surveillance gadgets, insisting that within 5 – 10 years, the entire Nation can be covered and insecurity reduced to it’s bearest minimum.
He advocated that Kogi State should make a law or Executive Order – for all public institutions, spaces, private institutions to as a must be covered by CCTV CAMERA.
He said Senatorial District must be broken into Cells monitored from a Central Command Post.
He however said other details, because certain Security implications should not and can’t be discussed on social media or pages of newspapers.
He called on Kogi State to take the lead, said there is the need for NATIONAL SURVEILLANCE PLAN OR STRATEGY which is absent today.
