MACBAN Urges Kwara Government to Investigate Alleged Killing of Fulani in Edu, Others
The Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN), Kwara State chapter, has called on the state government and security agencies to thoroughly investigate the alleged killing of Fulani herders in Edu Local Government Area of the state.
The state chairman of MACBAN, Alhaji Shehu Garba, made the appeal in a statement issued in Ilorin, where he also urged the government to compensate affected Fulani families for the loss of lives, livestock, and property—just as it has done for other ethnic groups in similar situations.
Alhaji Garba expressed concern over what he described as the government’s slow response to issues affecting Fulani communities, particularly when it involves the destruction of lives and livelihoods.
According to him, findings by the association revealed that no fewer than 20 Fulani individuals have been killed in separate incidents in Oke Ode (Ifelodun Local Government Area), Omu-Aran (Irepodun Local Government Area), and Gbugbu (Edu Local Government Area). He added that about 42 cows, sheep, and goats were missing, while over 1,200 bags of grains and several shelters were destroyed.
The MACBAN chairman further alleged that local vigilantes conducting stop-and-search operations along the Omu-Aran road had seized at least five Fulani persons who were reportedly handed over to security agencies but have since remained missing.
He described the reported attacks on Fulani individuals by persons allegedly wearing state government-approved vigilante uniforms as disturbing, calling for urgent government intervention to prevent further escalation.
Alhaji Garba appealed to the state government to treat Fulani residents with fairness and equity by ensuring justice and compensating them for their losses, as was done for other affected groups.
He also urged security agencies to investigate the alleged disappearance of Fulani individuals reportedly handed over to them by vigilantes in Omu-Aran to uncover the truth behind the incident.
