Lokoja town and the Menace of Hoodlums: An Appeal For Urgent Intervention – Abbas Yahaya

Gov Yahaya Bello,
The Executive Governor of Kogi State

Dear Sir,

I humbly write on behalf of many concerned Lokoja indigenes to appeal to you to kindly intervene and put an end to the menace of hoodlums in our town.

Let me be clear that the current unrest and havoc caused by gangs in the town isn’t a fallout of any protest but one that has been going on for years in our domain while we could only watch helplessly hoping the government would come to our aid.

It used to be gang wars that lasted for few hours but as it is, the attacks are targeted at robbing and vandalizing private and public properties.

Sir, it is very important that something drastic is done to the menace of these boys in our Lokoja town.

In the last three days, businesses are not opening and citizens can barely move around at night for fear of being harmed. Armed hoodlums have taken over our streets. This night, at Old Market, sporadic shootings rented the air for hours while shops and personal properties are burgled and looted.

Even the efforts of the Operation Lungu was futile as these boys, who keep growing in their large numbers, could not be overpowered.

Sir, the once peaceful town of Lokoja is restless. The hoodlums have taken over. We can no longer breathe freely without the fear of being attacked.

What am I saying, sir? We are not asking for too much. As the Chief Security Officer of the State, we appeal to you to order a swift clampdown on the activities of these boys. Let security operatives be deployed as soon as possible to the hot areas of the traditional wards of Lokoja. Let these boys be flushed out!

Sir, helpless citizens in Lokoja Constituency are pleading for your intervention. We are asking that you use your good office to bring sanity to our once peaceful land.

Thank you, sir, as we the good people of Lokoja town are looking up to you.
