An Abuja-based legal practitioner, Mr. Pelumi Olajengbesi, has called for the retraining and updating of judges in Nigeria.

In a statement on Monday, he alleged that there are some judges who do not understand the Law but who confidently give judgments that, according to him, visibly offend the Law.

Olajengbesi, who is also the Managing Partner, Law Corridor, lamented that all they could do therefore was to humbly thank them for the industry they allegedly obviously lack.

He stated that this is rather unsavoury as according to him, they are in a profession that seeks to defend the weak but practice one where they cannot freely express the sad truth.

Olajengbesi said, “The Nigerian Judiciary needs to constantly train and update our judges on the letters and applications of the law, with all due respect. “There are some judges out there who do not understand the Law but who confidently give judgments that visibly offend the Law and all we can do is to humbly thank them for the industry they obviously lack whereas we are in a profession that seeks to defend the weak but practice one where we cannot freely express the sad truth.”
