KOSIEC fixes 17, October 2026 for Kogi council election.

 

The Kogi state Independent Electoral Commission ( KOSIEC) has fixed Saturday,17 th, October 2026 for the council election in the state.

KOSIEC Chairman, Mamman Nda Eri made the disclosure in Lokoja yesterday at a meeting with stakeholders .

In attendance were representatives of political parties, Civil Organizations and security agencies.

He told the meeting” In exercise of the powers conferred on the Kogi State Independent Electoral Commission ( KOSIEC) by the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria( as amended), the Electoral Act, 2022, and the Kogi State Independent Electoral Commission Law, 2025, the Commission hereby gives Notice of Election into the offices of : Chairmen of the 21 Local Government Areas,and Councillors of the 239 Electoral Wards in Kogi State. The elections shall be held on Saturday, 17th, October 2026.”

The KOSIEC Chairman said the Notice was given in accordance with Section 28(1) of the Electoral Act, 2022 ” which mandates the Commission to publish a Notice of Election not later than 360 days before the Dàte appointed for the election.”

Nda Eri told the stakeholders that the detailed timetable and schedule of activities for the council election, indicating the specific dates for each activity including the conduct of party primaries, submission of candidates’ lists, publication of names of nominated candidates, commencement and end of campaigns and other pre-election activities shall be published by the Commission on Friday 24th October 2025.

The KOSIEC Chairman reminded the stakeholders that only political parties duly registered and recognised by the Independent National Electoral Commission shall be eligible to sponsor candidates for the elections in accordance with the provisions of the Electoral Act and the Kogi State Independent Electoral Commission law.

The stakeholders in their various comments , called on the KOSIEC to sensitize both election personnel and the electorates on the exercise, assuring the Commission of their cooperation.
