Widows and women groups across Kogi West Senatorial District have thrown their weight behind Most Distinguished Senator Sunday Steve Karimi citing his extensive economic and social interventions targeted at vulnerable women in the zone.
The massive show of support was coordinated through the Senator’s wife, Mrs. Stellamaris Karimi, with grassroots women groups endorsing his representation and calling for his continuation in office ahead of 2027.
At the center of the endorsement are the Senator’s direct investments in women’s livelihoods, estimated at over ₦100 million under the Senator Sunday Steve Karimi Women Empowerment Program.
Under the empowerment program, the Senator disbursed ₦100 million in consecutive phases to more than *50 registered women cooperative societies* across _Yagba, Lokoja/Koton-Karfe, and Kabba-Bunu/Ijumu_ federal constituencies.
Each beneficiary cooperative received approximately *₦2 million* to sustain and scale petty trading and small-scale enterprises.
In addition to the grants, *over 550 women* have undergone intensive training in business management, record-keeping, and financial literacy to boost economic independence and sustainability of their businesses.
Recognizing that a large number of widows in Kogi West are farmers, Senator Karimi’s office has also provided regular farming interventions. These include sprayer machines, fertilizers, agrochemicals, and improved crop seedlings to reduce production costs for agrarian families.
Through his multi-million naira academic foundation, the lawmaker has also taken over the financial burden of tertiary education for children of struggling mothers and widows, providing a critical safety net for families.
Community stakeholders and women leaders said the human-centered approach of the Senator has strengthened his bond with the grassroots.
They described his interventions as “life-changing” and pledged to mobilize massive support for his re-election in 2027.
“This is representation that touches lives directly,” a widow leader in Yagba said. “That is why we are saying _Karimi lekan si_ — unstoppable, Insha-Allah.”
With the ₦100 million empowerment fund, training for 550 women, and ongoing agricultural and educational support, widows in Kogi West say Senator Karimi has set a new standard for people-focused representation.
