Kogi West APC Group Dismisses Purported Primary Result, Backs Karimi
A political group operating under the banner of Kogi West APC Stakeholders and Supporters has dismissed as fake a purported result of the APC senatorial primary election held in Kogi West on May 18, 2026.
The group, in a statement endorsed by Stanley Ajileye, described the document circulating online as a forged result allegedly designed to create crisis within the party.
The controversial document reportedly declared Hon. Sam Aro winner of the primary election, a claim the stakeholders insisted could not stand because the aspirant had earlier withdrawn from the race before the exercise took place.
According to the statement, Sam Aro’s withdrawal was done in line with internal party arrangements and out of loyalty to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the leadership of the APC.
The stakeholders maintained that the APC primary election was validly conducted and that Sunday Karimi emerged through a transparent and duly supervised process as the party’s authentic candidate for Kogi West Senatorial District.
They added that all aspirants who participated in the political consultations preceding the primary had accepted Senator Karimi as consensus candidate, noting that evidence of such agreement existed in both written and electronic formats.
The group accused unnamed opposition interests of attempting to exploit the political process in order to fracture the renewed unity currently being witnessed within the APC in Kogi West.
It stated that those behind the alleged forgery were uncomfortable with the reconciliation efforts among different tendencies within the party and had resorted to misinformation to trigger confusion and distrust.
The statement also defended the Governor of Kogi State, Ahmed Usman Ododo, against what it described as attempts to drag him into the controversy.
The stakeholders said the governor was not associated with double standards or political manipulation and warned against efforts to create unnecessary tension between him and party stakeholders in Kogi West.
While urging security agencies to investigate the alleged forgery, the group stressed that falsification of electoral documents remained a serious criminal offence under Nigerian law.
The stakeholders also appealed to party supporters to remain calm and united, insisting that only information released through recognised APC channels should be considered authentic.
