Kogi to replicate science schools across the state.


 

The Kogi State Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Hon Wemi Jones has disclosed that efforts is on to ensure that every local government area in the State gets a GYB Model Science Secondary School.

The Commissioner made the disclosure when he received a Gold Medal Award in Public Administration and as an Integrity Icon of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in Public Conduct as rated him by whistle blowers on ethical compliance from the Centre For Ethics and Value Orientation.

Similarly, the Kogi State Ministry of Education Science and Technology was rated as the most second ethical compliant Ministry in the State out of five ministries assessed for Institution Corporate Award, with the Commissioner maintaining that the outstanding achievements in the Education Sector is still a work in progress.

Hon. Jones received the Certificate of Credence on behalf of the Ministry, disclosed that following the establishment of the Confluence University of Science and Technology, Osara, the GYB Model Science Secondary School would serve as a buffer for undergraduates in the Confluence University, reason why Gov. Bello has given approval for every local government area in the State to have a GYB Model Science Secondary School.

The Commissioner disclosed that presently, the State is building three GYB Model Science Secondary Schools in the three Senatorial District of the state, but assurred that by the end of the first quarter of 2022, every local government area would have a GYB Model Science Secondary School, as reasons why the present administration increased the budgetary provision for education from 20% to 30% in the 2022 budget.

The Commissioner disclosed that Kogi State has surpassed the UNESCO benchmark of 26% for States to allocate to Education, described Gov. Bello as a miracle worker and a lover of Education.

The Commissioner explained that the Ministry is already working to convert many schools in the State to GYB Model Science Secondary School, said this is to enable her meet the requirements for the State indigenes to be able to fill the quoter in the Confluence University of Science and Technology, Osara.

Hon. Jones further bdisclosed that CUSTECH is the fastest growing University in the Country, explained that no Public University has enjoyed the speed CUSTECH have, disclosed that the University has beaten the records within a year of its establishment as the fastest University in the Country.

The Commissioner stated that in the first week of January, 2022, with the intervention of TETFUND, the state would break new grounds with the construction of the Faculties of Engineering, Medical Sciences, Library to meet up the Science requirements for CUSTECH, said all this achievements were made possible by the commitment Gov. Bello has given to Education.

Hon. Jones said with the Education Sector plan put in place by the State Government, it would enable the State to have an idea of where the State Education Sector would and should be, attributed the feat this far to the passion of Gov. Bello for the coming generation.

The Commissioner described Education as a Sector that would direct the future of the state and the Youths, says Education has a direct relationship with the Peoples lives, disclosed that poor Education and lack of Education has a direct relationship with the current insecurity that is currently facing the country, said the high rate of terrorism, Kidnapping, Banditry, armed robbery and other negative social vices facing the country has a direct relationship with poor investment in the Education Sector.

While noting that since his assumption of office as Education Commissioner, he has put in place deliberate policies and measures that has drastically reduced corruption in the Sector, explained that on assumption as Commissioner, he declared war on Miracle Centres and other corrupt practices in the Sector.

He disclosed that the State is amongst the top leading states in the just conducted external examinations like WAEC and NECO, pointing out that he has moved the state from its fourteenth position in the last ratings to about the first three top states in performance in external examinations, assurred that the administration of Gov Bello is resolute in making Education the envy of all sectors in the State and in the Country.

Earlier, the Executive Director of Centre for Ethics and Value reorientation, Ethicists Salihu Yakubu Sani, lauded the anti-corruption stands of the Commissioner for Education, said the efforts put in place is reason for the award.
