By joshua KOGI STATE’S SECURITY SUCCESS: A MODEL OF PROACTIVE GOVERNANCE IN THE FIGHT AGAINST BANDITRY- AMB. ABUBAKAR COMMENDS GOV. USMAN ODODO
The Nigerian Ambassador to Kuwait, Amb. (Dr.) Abubakar Sanusi Gamji has commended Kogi State Governor, Alh. Usman Ahmed Ododo for his effective governance in the area of security of lives and property.
The successful repulsion of bandits attack in Ikoyi, Ijumu Local Government Area of Kogi State by security forces deserves commendation from all well-meaning Nigerians. At a time when many states across the federation continue to grapple with the menace of banditry, kidnapping, and violent crimes, Kogi State has once again demonstrated that proactive leadership, effective security collaboration, and community participation can significantly reduce security threats.
Reports indicate that armed bandits invaded Ikoyi community with the intention of abducting residents and causing widespread panic. However, the swift response of the Nigerian Military, the Nigeria Police Force, the Kogi State Vigilante Service, local hunters, and other security stakeholders thwarted the attack, forcing the criminals to retreat with injuries sustained during the exchange of gunfire.
While it is unfortunate that one citizen lost his life and another sustained injuries during the confrontation, the outcome could have been far more devastating had the security architecture put in place by the Kogi State Government not responded with such speed and effectiveness. The sacrifice of the deceased should not be forgotten, Amb. Abubakar sends his sincere condolences to the bereaved family.
According to Amb. Abubakar, “This latest success reflects the unwavering commitment of the administration of Ahmed Usman Ododo to safeguarding lives and property across the state”.
Since assuming office, the governor has continued to prioritize security by strengthening collaboration among conventional security agencies, local vigilantes, hunters, and community intelligence networks.
Equally deserving recognition, is the role of the Commissioner for Information and Communications, Kingsley Femi Fanwo, whose timely communication reassured citizens and demonstrated transparency in keeping the public informed about security developments.
Amb. Abubakar Sanusi Gamji further stated that Kogi State’s approach to security offers valuable lessons for other states. Security challenges cannot be addressed by government alone; they require collective responsibility, intelligence sharing, and community vigilance. The synergy witnessed among security operatives in Ijumu exemplifies the effectiveness of a unified response against criminal elements.
The successful operation also sends a strong message to bandits, kidnappers, and other criminal groups that Kogi State is increasingly becoming a hostile environment for their activities. The ongoing manhunt for the fleeing attackers further demonstrates the determination of security agencies to ensure that perpetrators are brought to justice.
Amb. Abubakar advised that, as citizens are commending the government and security agencies for this achievement, there is a need to sustain the momentum through continuous investment in intelligence gathering, surveillance technology, personnel welfare, and community engagement.
Security is not an event but a continuous process that requires vigilance and commitment.
Today, Kogi State stands as a shining example of how political will, strategic planning, and effective security coordination can produce tangible results. The foiling of the Ijumu attack is not merely a security victory; it is a victory for governance, peace, and the collective determination of Kogi people to resist criminality.
The government, security personnel, vigilante groups, and patriotic citizens who contributed to this success deserve commendation. Their courage and sacrifice continue to strengthen public confidence that a safer and more secure Kogi State is achievable, Amb. Abubakar Sanusi Gamji added.
