Kogi State Government suspends all Mining activities – Kogi Solid Minerals Commissioner
… State to profile Legal Mining Companies.
The Kogi State Government says it has suspended all Mining activities in the State due to influx of bandits and negative elements in the Mining related activities.
The decision to suspend the Mining activities according to the Commissioner for Solid Minerals and Natural Resources, Engr Bashiru Gegu was reached at the State Executive Council meeting presided over by the Kogi State Gov. Alh Usman Ahmed Ododo.
In an interview with Newsmen after the State Executive Council, the Kogi State Commissioner For Solid Minerals and Natural Resources, Engr Bashiru Gegu, said the State Ministry of Solid Minerals and Natural Resources, has been directed to start the profiling of Legal Mining Companies in the State.
According to the Commissioner, ” This is to enable the State have genuine Mining Data”.
“A total clean up of the sector will go a long way in minimizing or eradicating criminalities in totality”.
“The state will work in accordance with the rules of the games and will collaborate with the Federal Mines Officers and the Security Agencies”.
“The State will not condone any form of infiltration or illegal activities”.
“We implore all the Mining Companies to bear with the State in this circumstances because we must curb insecurity”, Engr. Bashiru Gegu said.
