Kogi State Executive Council Approves Memo For The Establishment Of University In Okunland, Proposes COETK As Take Off Site.


Kogi State Executive Council has approved a memo for a bill towards the establishment of Kogi State University in Okunland and other matters connected therewith.

State Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Wemi Jones disclosed this while briefing newsmen on the outcome of the State Executive Council meeting in Lokoja.

Hon. Jones said the State Attorney General was directed to equally transmit the proposed bill to the Kogi State House of Assembly for consideration and passage into Law.

According the bill when passed and accented to by Governor Yahaya Bello is one of the pre-requisite needed as “University Law” for the National University Commission, NUC, to recognise any give approval for the establishment of University in the country.

The Commissioner said government was working towards speedy approval to the State University as the implementation committee chaired by Professor Olu Obafemi was working with relevant stakeholders to that effect.

Hon Wemi Jones also disclosed that the Committee is considering the use of the College of Education Technical, Kabba as a take off place for the University while COETK will be relocated another venue as government is considering Mopa Muro Local Government for the task.
