By joshua KOGI POLICE SUSTAIN CRACKDOWN ON VEHICLES WITHOUT NUMBER PLATES, WARN OF IMPOUNDMENT
The Kogi State Police Command has said its ongoing enforcement against vehicles operating without registration number plates, with obscured plates, or unlawfully displaying foreign number plates will continue across the state until full compliance is achieved.
In a statement on Tuesday, July 7, 2026, signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, *ASP Saliu Oyiza Afusat*, the Command warned that vehicle owners and drivers found in violation risk having their vehicles impounded and may face other sanctions under the law.
According to the Command, the exercise is part of efforts to strengthen public safety, enhance crime prevention, improve intelligence gathering, and ensure proper identification and tracing of vehicles within the state.
The Police noted that experience has shown that criminals often exploit vehicles without identifiable registration numbers or with concealed plates to commit crimes and evade arrest.
The Commissioner of Police, *CP Naziru Bello Kankarofi, psc, mni*, said the enforcement aligns with the directive of the Inspector-General of Police, *IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, psc(+), NPM*, aimed at promoting a safer and more secure environment through strict compliance with existing laws.
The Command urged all motorists to ensure that: Vehicles are duly registered* and display valid registration number plates
– Plates are not covered, defaced, altered, tinted, or otherwise obscured*
– Foreign number plates are used strictly in accordance with applicable laws*
– Any unauthorized coverings or devices concealing plates are removed immediately*
“Members of the public are advised to comply with these directives to avoid unnecessary inconvenience, including the impoundment of their vehicles during the ongoing enforcement exercise,” the statement added.
The Kogi State Police Command appreciated the cooperation of law-abiding residents and assured that the enforcement will be carried out professionally, fairly, and without fear or favour, in line with the Police Act 2020 and Nigeria Police Regulations.
