Kogi Police Intercept 342 Wraps of Suspected Indian Hemp on Kabba Road
The Kogi State Police Command has intercepted 342 wraps of substances suspected to be Indian hemp during a stop-and-search operation in Kabba.
Commissioner of Police, CP Naziru Bello Kankarofi, disclosed this at a press briefing in Lokoja, noting that the seizure was made on May 9, 2026, at about 2:00 p.m. by operatives of the Kabba Area Command.
According to CP Kankarofi, the operatives stopped a Honda Pilot Jeep with registration number LSD 456 GE during routine checks. The vehicle was driven by 52-year-old Chris Amos, with Bilat Joseph as the passenger. A search of the vehicle uncovered the concealed consignment.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspects said they picked up the drugs in Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State, on the instruction of an individual identified only as “Alhaji,” who remains at large. The suspects claimed the illicit substance was meant for delivery in Yola, Adamawa State.
Both suspects are in custody while the exhibits have been secured. Investigations are ongoing to track down other members of the network and ensure diligent prosecution.
CP Kankarofi said illicit drug trafficking remains a major driver of violent crime and that the Command would sustain aggressive operations to dismantle syndicates and block the movement of narcotics through Kogi State.
He commended the Inspector-General of Police for strategic support, thanked Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo for backing security operations, and urged residents to continue providing credible information to aid policing efforts.
The Commissioner reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to protecting lives and property through intelligence-led policing and collaboration with other security agencies.
