Kogi Opens Bid to Construct International Airport, As DG Government House Says It’s a Dream Come Through
The Director General, Kogi State Government House Administration, Dr. Umar Oricha, has hailed the ongoing efforts to construct the Kogi State International Airport at Zariagi, Lokoja, describing it as a desirable project.
He made this statement during the opening of technical proposals for the airport’s construction. The bid opening was witnessed by coalition of Civil Society Organizations in the State and other critical stakeholders.
Dr. Oricha emphasized that the airport’s strategic location will boost the state’s economy and businesses. He noted that the lack of an airport has hindered the state’s growth and development, and expressed optimism that the project will bring opportunities and transform the economy.
The Commissioner for Transportation, Hon. Atuluku Levi, described the project as a critical milestone in the state’s infrastructure development. He stated that the airport will enhance connectivity, facilitate trade, and promote investment opportunities.
“The procurement process is being conducted transparently, with fairness and adherence to best practices. The technical proposals will be evaluated based on pre-established criteria, and only competent firms will proceed to the next phase”.
The Commissioner praised Gov. Usman Ahmed Ododo and other stakeholders for their support and commitment to the project.
“The project is expected to be a landmark achievement and a legacy for future generations”, according to the Commissioner.
In his remarks, the Kogi State Director General, Bureau of Public Procurement, Hon. Barr. Sunday Joshua Ehimoni, expressed high optimism that the process to select a competent and reputable company for the building of the International Airport in the State would be transparent and credible, reiterated the resolve of the administration of Gov Usman Ahmed Ododo to transparency and accountability.
In his goodwill message, Amb. Muraina Idris Ozovehe, who represented the Kogi Non Governmental Organization, lauded the Kogi State Ministry of Transformation for following due process and transparency.
Permanent Secretary ESV Baiyegunsi S. Taiwo reassured bidders of a professional and objective evaluation process, ensuring decisions are based on merit and value for money.
The bidding process was hailed by the company that bidded, described the process as very transparent and credible, expressed appreciation to the State Government to abide by the outcome.
