Kogi NUJ Press Week Commences With Special Prayer Session.


 

A Special Prayer Session has been held to commence the 2020 Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ Kogi State Council Press week.

The Special Prayers were offered after the two rakaats Jumu’a prayers at the State Ministry of Education Masjid, Lokoja as part of activities lined up to commemorate the week.

In a sermon which dwelt on the Sacredness of the human life, Imam Ayuba Abdulganiyu decried the taking of innocent lives in whatever guise as ungodly and a sin.

According to him, no individual or group had the right to kill.
Emphasizing that, “Nobody is allowed to take the life of another except by way of Justice or through Law”.

While quoting relevant Surahs from the Holy Qur’an, Imam Abdulganiyu emphasized that it was important for persons particularly those in authority to protect the lives of the people. “Protecting the lives of innocent people is very crucial in Islam”. He stated.

The Imam cautioned those who shed innocent blood to desist saying they shall give account to Allah as Allah alone gives life and takes lives.

He therefore enjoined the Ummah to have respect for human life and eschew transgression as well as injustice.

Imam Abdulganiyu further charged Journalists in the state to uphold the ethics of the profession as they have a great role particularly in the face of various risks in course of discharging their duty.

In an interview, Chairman, Kogi State Council of the NUJ, Alhaji Adeiza Mommoh Jimoh noted that the annual Press week in the state provided an avenue for the union to give back to society, examine its activities and as well strategize for the coming year. “I think it’s all about stock taking and thanking God for what He has done in our lives and pray that God would be with us as we do our jobs”. The NUJ Chairman explained.

Alhaji Adeiza further stated that the Union would also use the event to explore means of maximizing the state waterways as experts would make valid presentations during the grand finale.
