Kogi Mega Terminal begins operations


 

National union, other stakeholders pledges support, urge public compliance

The Kogi State Mega Terminal was on Wednesday officially opened to serve as the only authorised location to conduct traveling activities of those from both the southern and northern part of the country, while the state committee similarly inaugurated a Joint Task Force to coordinate enforcement and adherence.

The State Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Baron Okwoli while declaring activities at the terminal opened noted that the Administration of Governor Yahaya Bello has through this effort re affirmed its commitment to the safety and security of citizens.

He pointed out that new things had been put in place through the committee the Governor inaugurated and that the operations of the Mega terminal would curb the incessant accident along the Lokoja – Felele highway as highly skilled personnel would be engaged to coordinate the activities at the Terminal.

The Commissioner added that following the commencement of operations, no vehicle would be allowed to pick or alight passengers along the Lokoja-Felele highway adding that every other mini, major parks and eateries were henceforth revoked.

He thanked the National Union of Road Transport Workers, other unions as well as several stakeholders for their cooperation with the state government while urging them to further mobilise their members towards the success of the New Mega Terminal.

First speaking on behalf of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), the Northern Branch Chairman, Alhaji Mohammed Kolo thanked the State Government for their concern reiterating that they as a body have informed their members of this coming event while he urged government to ensure public compliance.

Also the State Chairman of NURTW, Alhaji Yahaya Ibrahim who was represented by the State’s Vice Chairman, Alhaji Danladi Ibrahim noted that the union members were law abiding and had always been loyal to the government in power.

He pledged the cooperation of the Union towards ensuring that the New Terminal was efficiently utilized noting that every necessary stakeholder from their end would fall in.
