… Cautioned Journalists Not To display bias reporting November Election.
Journalists covering the forthcoming Kogi State Governorship Election slated for November 11 have been asked not to display biases in favour of any political party.
Mr. Lanre Arogundade, Executive Director, International Press Council gave the charge at a two day roundtable/engagement on Kogi Governorship Election holding at Abuja.
Speaking on Election safety in the forthcoming Kogi election, he cautioned Journalists against negotiating with any politician to suppress information.
Mr. Arogundade said the Kogi election will be made credible through unbiased and professional report from the media, reason why the place of the media in credible Kogi election remain very important.
While pointing out that the forthcoming election in the state requires professionalism and objectivity that would be displayed by media practitioners, Arogundade cautioned against brown envelope Journalism.
He urged practitioners to be in constant touch with close relatives and friends, urged for Journalism to be conscious of safety alert.
The Executive Director urged practitioners in the Kogi election as part of safety consciousness show respect to law enforcement and security agents to stay safe on election day.
Mr. Arogundade urged practitioners to avoid mobs if the situation gets rough or violent, pointing out that journalists should report from reasonable distance and make retreat possible.
As a safety measure, Mr. Arogundade advice Journalists to move in groups or in cluster, appealed to them to be conscious of life after reporting election.
The two day training and media engagement draws participants numbering 25 from the print, broadcast and online media, is with EU support to Democratic Governance in Nigeria (EU SDGN 11) Component 4: support to Nigeria – Phase 2 Project.
