KOGI GOVERNMENT SUSPENDS MINING ACTIVITIES IN ANKPA LGA FOR REHABILITATION EXERCISE

The Kogi State Ministry of Solid Minerals and Natural Resources has announced a temporary suspension of all mining activities in the Ankpa Local Government Area.

In a public notice issued on Tuesday and signed by Muhammed Jamiu, Special Assistant on Media and Publicity to the Commissioner, Engr. Bashiru Gegu, the Ministry said the suspension is to allow for an ongoing rehabilitation exercise in the area.

The exercise is being carried out in collaboration with the Mining Association, Ankpa Local Government Council, and the Kogi State Ministry of Solid Minerals and Natural Resources.

According to the statement, the directive affects all miners, mining companies, associations, host communities, and other operators within the Ankpa axis.

The Ministry urged all stakeholders to comply with the directive “until further notice” and assured that an official announcement will be made once the rehabilitation is completed and mining activities are cleared to resume.

It also expressed appreciation for the cooperation and understanding of all stakeholders during the period of the exercise.

The suspension, the Ministry added, is part of the Ododo’s administration’s commitment to promoting sustainable mining practices and ensuring environmental safety across Kogi State.
