Kogi Government Holds Water Stakeholders Engagement/Meeting,
…. Reiterates Commitment To commence full supply of potable water to Lokoja metropolis

The Kogi Organized a Water Stakeholders Engagement/Meeting towards repositioning the effective distribution of potable water supply to residents of Lokoja Metropolis.
The State Government at the meeting said it has attained ninety-nine percent efforts of what is needed to commence full supply of potable water to most areas of Lokoja metropolis.
The State Commissioner of Water Resources, Engineer Yahaya MD Farouk, stated this at a water stakeholders engagement meeting, held at the Children’s Amusement park in Lokoja, the State Capital.
To end water scarcity in Lokoja following the breakdown of the Greater Lokoja Water Works, the Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, according to the Commissioner directed for an alternative water supply which led to the rehabilitation of Old Lokoja Water Works.
Following the completion of the rehabilitation of the water works, a team from the state Ministry of Water Resources led by the Commissioner, has been undergoing test running and repairs of broken pipes to ensure that the water supply get to the targeted population.
This formed the basis for the Stakeholders Engagement/Meeting which attracted representatives from the Ministry of water resources, key stakeholders from Ward A, B, C, D, E, civil society organizations, NGOs, Plumbers Association of Nigeria, Youths among others, to chat way forward on how to cooperate with the State Government towards protecting water facilities, as well as urging the residents to fix their broken pipes where necessary.
The Commissioner noted that the essence of the meeting was to discuss the current water supply situation with the stakeholders on the need to synergies towards mitigating the vandalization of water facilities and for residents to maintain their service lines towards ensuring adequate water supply to the people.
In their various remarks, a representative of the Initiative for Grassroot Advancement in Nigeria (INGRA), Hamza Aliyu, the Executive Director, Conscience For Human Right and Conflict Resolution, Idris Miliki, Chairman, Kogi State Chapter of Water Users Association, comrade Hatfiz Ibrahim among others promised to support the state government to ensure water supply to all parts of the state capital.
The residents Commend Gov. Usman Ahmed Ododo’s administration as well as the Commissioner for Water Resources for the efforts in ensuring the provision of water, assured that they will cooperate with the Government towards ensuring seamless implementation of what is needed for successful delivery of water.
The Stakeholders Engagement ended with a commitment by the various Wards to nominate committees that would work with the Ministry, Plumber Association to fix noticed challenges in their areas so as to avoid leakages and ensure smooth delivery of water.
