Kogi Flags Off ”Operation Clean City” To Checkmate Indiscriminate Dump Of Wastes
Kogi State government has flagged off ” Operation Clean City ” , a new initiative aimed at improving the sanitary conditions of major cities in the state.
The state Commissioner for Environment and Ecological Management, Engr. Joseph Oluwasegun Stephen disclosed this in a statement in Lokoja.
He said the operation will involve rigorous sanitation and sensitization exercise across the state.
Joseph said the new initiative is in line with the resolve of Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo, to ensure a clean and healthy Environment across the state.
The exercise which commenced since Monday, February 5, 2024 involved waste evacuation and drainage desilting and road walk among others.
Joseph urged kogites to refrain stop indiscriminate dumping of waste/ littering gutter and streets with wastes.
The Commissioner also charged traders to stop displaying their goods/wares along the roadside.
He warned that the present administration has zero tolerance for uncleanliness and as such offender’s who fail to adhere strictly with the policies will be made to face the law.
According to him, the exercise will be extended to the grassroots as the government of the day is keen on enforcing thorough sanitation practices.
Also speaking during the exercise, the Permanent Secretary, Alhaji Jibrin Sheidu asked kogites to co-operate with the ministry in order to achieve the vision of a clean and healthy environment free from health hazards caused by poor waste management.
The Kogi State Waste and Sanitation Board led by its General Manager , Mr Femi Ajayi mobilised his team to ensure the success of the sanitation activities.
