Kogi Education Commissioner Reads Riot Act To Principals, Teachers, Warns Against Extortion.

 

The Kogi State Commissioner For Education, Hon Wemi Jones has read the riot act for Principals and Teachers, asking them to immediately get a copy of the Kogi State Education law, Insists that the era of extorting students and parents by Principals and Teachers is over.

Hon. Jones made the disclosure at the Diamond Jubilee Celebration of Saint Monica’s College Kabba, Congratulated the school on the attainment of 60 years.

The present administration Hon. Jones mentioned is poised to stop a lot of fraudulent practices in the secondary school system, urge principals, teaching and non teaching staff to desist from extorting students.

He said the Ministry in the new dispensation will not condone indiscipline and unethical practices from Principals and Teachers, warned against converting schools to miracle center or collecting what the Commissioner called “help money”, during WAEC and for other exams. “I beg you now so that you don’t come to beg me later”, Hon. Jones said.

The Commissioner urge the students in the State to be hardworking, study hard, assured that the government will create an enabling environment for quality learning.

The Commissioner expressed satisfaction with the overall performances of Saint Monica’s College Kabba, said
the founding fathers of the institution would be extremely proud of what the institution has turned out to be, praised the Catholic mission for establishing the institution.

The Commissioner noted that following the foundation laid by Alh Yahaya Bello’s administration, said Gov. Ododo is an offshoot of the immediate past administration was set to consolidate on the achievements made in the years past.

The Commissioner assured that the positive achievements under GYB in the education sector will be sustained and improved upon in quality service delivery.

He said the present administration is taking education back to the 60s and 70s with scientific, digital, application to teaching, using technological methods he said would be the new order.

The State Government in the next dispensation he added is committed to ensuring discipline in schools, reason why he said it has commenced the process of inspection, supervision and evaluation of what is needed by schools, through monitoring, pointing out that it has come to stay.

Hon. Jones disclosed that Gov. Ododo places so much Investment in education, reason why the State Government has paid for WAEC, JAMB, JSS3 BECE, expected to be paid in the coming week.
