Kogi State Commissioner for Environment, Hon Victor Adewale Omofaiye has described the environment as critical to quality human life, and urged citizens of the state, especially civil servants to imbibe the culture of cleanliness.
He made this known today at the office of The Graphic Newspaper where he joined the staff to carry out their monthly environment sanitation and donated some dirt conveying tools including waste bins, rakes, brooms among others available to them.
The Commissioner said; “I am highly delighted to be part of The Graphic Newspaper Management disposition and preparedness to showcase a monthly Environmental Sanitation Exercise which we are all witnessing today Thursday, 25th February, 2021.
“Again, I commend the entire Management and Staff of The Graphic Newspaper for their passion for environmental cleanliness which is the way to go globally. Permit me to say it loud and clear that Environmental Sanitation is the fulcrum on which all health management rest upon. There is a common saying that health is wealth and prevention is better and cheaper than suffice to say that the Graphic Management cure understands this assertion and leveraging on it, hence the activities of today which is complementary to the current activities of the Ministry in the on-going enumeration of premises which will hopefully lead to our desired integrated municipal waste management in Kogi State through the engagement of private sector participation in Sanitation and Waste Management.
“It is expedient to say this that Sanitation is a business of all and sundry and it should not be left for Government alone, every hands must be on deck to sanitise our Environment like the Graphics is doing today.
“Havng said this, I wish to call on the MDAS to queue behind the Graphic or emulate their lofty gesture towards the cleanliness of our fragile environment which is a means to tame diseases related to poor environmental sanitation, like; Cholera, Tuberculosis, Lassa fever, Diarrhoea, Malaria, to mention just a few.
“I wish to conclude by saying this spirit of cleanliness should not be dampened. I therefore declare Graphic Monthly Environmental Sanitation Exercise open for the goodness of the Environment and human survival,” he concluded.
Speaking earlier, the Managing Director of The Graphic Newspaper, Pastor Dayo Thomas and the Executive Editor, Mr James Oyewole thanked the Commissioner for being an exemplary leader and for joining them and donating tools to help them in their sanitation exercise.
