Kogi Assembly Repeals & Re-enact State Local Govt Law 2000 To Give Room For Constitution Of Transition Committee.

Kogi Sate House Of Assembly has repealed and re-enacted the State Local Government Law 2000.
This is as the State Government may likely announced the names of Caretaker Chairmen this week .
The existing law was repealed after a clause by clause consideration of the bill by the committee of whole on the floor of the State House of Assembly.
The reenacted law gives the state government the power to appoint Transition Committee with six months tenure, where there is no Local Government election.
The reenacted law also states that the above provision which is subject to the approval of the House, adds that the tenure of the Transition Committee Chairman can be extended after the first six months subject to the approval of the House.
Also, the Transition Committee shall consists of seven members which includes the member representing the state constituency .
Earlier, the Majority Leader of the House , Suleiman Abdulrasaq who is also the representative of Okene Town state constituency, in his lead debate explained the changes in the law.
Also the representative of Ajaokuta state constituency, Abu Jibrin explained that the repeal and reenactment of the Local Government law by the state assembly was not done in exemption as Taraba, Sokoto and Adamawa states recently did same .
