Kogi 2026 Council elections: State Electoral body releases detailed timetable, commences political activities.
The Kogi state Independent Electoral Commission ( KOSIEC) yesterday commenced activities leading to the 17, October 2026 council election in the state as it released detailed timetable on the exercise.
The timetable made public in Lokoja by the Commission Chairman, Mamman NdaEri showed that conduct of primaries by political parties to field candidates for the election and resolution of crisis that will arise from the primaries will hold from Monday, 10th November to Sunday, 12 th December, 2025.
From Monday 15th December to Friday, 19th December,2025, political parties will collect Nomination Forms from the KOSIEC while political parties will submit list of candidates for the election from Monday,5th to Friday,9th, January, 2026.
From Friday, 16th January to Wednesday, 21st, 2026, there would be screening and publication of personal particulars of candidates ( Form EC9). The particulars will be displayed at KOSIEC headquarters and Local Government offices.
Thursday , 22nd January to Friday,30th,2026 have been dedicated for the withdrawal and replacement of candidates by political parties while Friday, 6th February 2026 is for publication of final list of validly nominated candidates for the election.
On Wednesday, 20th May 2026 , political parties will commence campaigns in public while Saturday , 3rd October, 2026 , political parties will submit names of party agents to the commission. On the same date, there will be publication of Notice of Election.
Thursday, 15th October, 2026, campaigns will end while Saturday,17th October, 2026 is the Election day.
According to the KOSIEC Chairman, election will hold from 8 a.m to 3 p.m on the election day.
The KOSIEC Chairman said all the activities were backed by appropriate sections of the Electoral Act , 2022.
He declared ” In exercise of the powers conferred on the Kogi State Independent Electoral Commission ( KOSIEC) by Section 197(1)(b) and Paragraph 3 of Part II of the Third Schedule to the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeroa ,1999(as amended),and in compliance with the provisions of the Electoral Act, 2022,the Commission hereby releases the Timetable and the Schedule of Activities of the Conduct of the 2026 Local Government Council
Elections in Kogi state. ”
The briefing was attended by political party representative and other critical stakeholders in the State.
